Table clock ebony veneered case, Johannes Vetter Gouda

A remarkable table clock? This clock was most likely entirely produced in The Netherlands, rather rare, since it is generally known that most 18th century Dutch signed table clocks were partly or completely  manufactured in the United Kingdom.

8-day movement, original verge escapement, “rise-and-fall”-system for adjusting the length of the pendulum, “Dutch” striking on 2 bells, full on the hour and half hour, pull repeating, missing the traditional engravings on the back plate, the movement in many details different from traditional English clockmaking, arched brass dial, silvered chapter ring, false seconds ring numbered 5 to 50 for adjusting the pendulum length, mock pendulum and well engraved date aperture,  signed on two different plates Johannes Vetter and Fecit Gouda, all within the chapter ring, moon phase in the arch, finely engraved around the moon disc, ebony veneered oak case (whereas in this period mainly black stained pear wood was used (ebonised)), solid brass feet, handle on top and 4 finials, remains of original gilding, engraved fretwork to the sides, height 56 cm (handle down), around 1750.
