An imposing, almost monumental, large Dutch Louis XVI mahogany musical" Dutch striking" 8-day longcase clock, signed C. Bakker, Groningen, having seconds dial, date, with high quality romantic
painting on a separate panel underneath the chapter-ring, fine solid mahogany carvings to the case surmounted by 3 vase-shaped finials, incorporating a separate
organ-playing movement with 7 tunes, comprising 2 ranks of 32 square wooden pipes, i.e. totalling 64 pipes. The organ plays every 4 hours, 5 times a day, starting
at 9.00 a.m. Height incl. finial 327 cm. Ca. 1790. The organ-movement is probably Dutch, most likely of Amsterdam-origin, although the
design and layout is said to be French. The majority of the organ-playing movementrestoration
has been undertaken in the workshop of the Nationaal Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement, Utrecht under the inspiring management of Dr. J.J.L. Haspels. The melodies are mentioned on the musical barrel, handwritten, but unfortunately with a limited readability.
