Lantern clock of standard size by Roger Moore, Ipswich

Divided posted movement, now with rebuilt verge escapement, striking the hours only on an outside count wheel, well-proportioned frame with urn finials, foliate scroll frets, slender corner columns and ball feet, the rear with original iron back plate, hanging loop and wall spikes, the dial plate signed Roger Moore de Ipswich fecit above engraved tulips, the chapter ring with Roman numerals and a single iron hand, the original doors with rebuilt wings. Height 39 cm, circa 1685.

Little is known of the early life of Roger Moore. He was married to Elizabeth Page in Ipswich in 1687 and their first son, also Roger, was born in 1688. Their second son, Thomas, was born in 1690 en he was to become the most famous of the Ipswich Clockmakers.
