A small German table clock

Pendulum spring-clocks of German origin are rare in the early period. This small, 18th century, example is signed on a dial signature plate „A.S. Pannyson Hanover“,  the movement backplate more fully signed „Andr. Siegfr. Pannyson Hanover“. The 8-day spring-movement  has verge escapement, fixed pendulum, having hour striking on 1 bell and quarter striking on 6 bells upon demand, the brass dial is partly silvered having apertures for a false-pendulum  and date in the matted centre within the chapter ring, a separate ring in the arch shows days of the week, pierced hands of black steel, contained in a solid fruitwood case, 36 cm high without handle. Circa 1760.

Andreas Siegfried Pannyson was born in Schleswig in March 1719 or 1721. He died in Hannover on the 25th of December 1786 (Lit. Meister der Uhrmacherkunst – Wuppertal 1977).
