A well-proportioned
French Louis XV 8-day striking longcase clock (horloge de parquet), movement
and dial signed Gault à Paris, date aperture, centre second, the
top quality case signed Jollain, exuberantly decorated with period ormolu
mounts and veneered with woods like amaranth, satinwood and tulipwood
marquetry, in the upper panel a depicting allegory of the crafts surrounded
by flowers, in the lower panel a man in a landscape playing the flute
under a tree, a village in the background. Height 214 cm, ca. 1750. |
