Pendule religieuse signed I. Thuret à Paris

Imposing pendule religieuse, 24-day three train movement, verge escapement, thread suspended pendulum with cycloidal cheeks, rack striking the hours in full and the quarters on three bells, also on demand, the back plate of the movement signed I. Thuret à Paris, velvet covered iron dial plate, engraved and gilded brass chapter ring, the minutes numbered from 1 to 60, pierced, engraved and gilded brass hands, cast, chased and gilded brass dial mount underneath the chapter ring bearing the signature I. Thuret à Paris, mainly oak case covered with “Contre-Boulle” marquetry comprising red coloured turtle shell, pewter and brass, gilded brass mounts, separate caddy sormounted by 8 finials, on gilded brass feet, height incl. finials 56 cm, ca. 1690.

 Isaac Thuret is undoubtedly the most well known Parisian clockmaker of the 2nd half of the 17th century. Interesting relationship with Christiaan Huygens. Working “aux Galleries du Louvre”. Died 1706 (Tardy).
