January 2010
A fast and short retrospect of the “open weekends” of december 2010, the fourth serie in succession:
The year 2009 was certainly not bad alltogether, but the success of the “open weekends” 2008 could not be repeated. This was expected for various reasons, the year 2009 as a whole however is not to complain about.
The sales collection could grow : In october 2009 10 more clocks could be placed on my website, by this time another 10 clocks are ready for “despatch” to the website. And there are still more clocks to come, which could not be restored in time for the “open weekends” of 2009. An eye catcher is a Fromanteel Amsterdam ebony veneered long case clock, to be dated around 1695. Very rare and a clock to keep !
Since more than 18 years I own a year going long case clock signed Fromanteel & Clark, which was never for sale. In October an American, completely unknown to me, calls and tells me he wants to start a collection of antique clocks, limited however to clocks of long duration. He is often away from home on business and appreciates that his clock(s) still run upon return.
On impulse I mentioned my year going long case clock without a serious intention to sell. After some discussion he wants me to make a concrete offer. As a consequence my clockmaker, myself and the clock are planning a trip to USA this month.
I have enjoyed an extensive article about me in the December-issue of TIJDschrift. For the next edition I have written an article about a table clock signed Johannes Ebsworth London.
